How much alcohol do you need for 75 guests?

A useful starting point for a well-stocked celebration—without turning a simple shopping trip into a guessing game.

For a 75-person event, the right alcohol order depends less on the headline guest count than on the shape of the gathering: its length, start time, menu and guest mix. A sunny Siesta Key afternoon will drink differently from an evening dinner party, and a cocktail-forward reception will drink differently from a beer-and-wine welcome party.

For most four-hour private events, plan around two drinks per guest in the first hour, then one drink per guest for each hour after. That puts a typical 75-guest event near 375 drinks. It is a planning baseline, not a reason to overbuy—always adjust for your actual RSVP count and the non-drinkers in the group.

Build a balanced order

For a mixed crowd, split the plan across beer, wine and a concise cocktail menu. A comfortable starting mix for 375 drinks is 35% beer, 35% wine and 30% cocktails. That is roughly 130 beers, 18 to 20 bottles of wine and ingredients for about 110 cocktails.

If your crowd loves cocktails, shift some beer and wine volume into the spirits and mixers. If it is a daytime brunch or pool event, build in more sparkling water, soft drinks and a bright low-ABV option. A thoughtful mobile bartending plan makes those adjustments simple before anyone shops.

Keep the cocktail menu intentionally small

Two signature cocktails plus a familiar classic are usually enough. With only a few recipes, you can buy accurate amounts, keep service moving and make the bar feel more considered. Add beer, wine and a genuinely good zero-proof option so every guest has an easy choice.

Do not forget the supporting pieces

  • Water and nonalcoholic drinks—especially for outdoor Gulf Coast events.
  • Ice, including extra for warm weather and chilling beer or wine.
  • Fresh citrus, garnish and mixers for the cocktail plan.
  • Cups or glassware, napkins and a clearly labeled water station.
  • A little buffer for last-minute guests, not a second full party's worth of alcohol.
